Czas Past Perfect wyraża czynność, która wydarzyła się w przeszłości przed inną przeszła czynnością, wyrażona czasem Past Simple.

W poniższych zdaniach bardzo wyraźnie widać te różnicę w odstępach czasu.

Tworzymy go w następujący sposób:

Twierdzenie: I/you/he/she/it/we/you/they + had + past participle (trzecia kolumna w tabeli czasowników nieregularnych lub czasownik regularny z końcówka -ed)

1. had found a cure for the mystery illness ... I wasn't worried about it.

2. was found, the patient had been released from hospital

3. had saved the woman's life ... the ambulance arrived

4. couldn't pay for my medicine ... I'd left my walet at home

5. had begun to feel ill, he couldn't concentrate on the lecture
